Before I post my problem, just so you know, I'm quite a noob when it comes to this kind of stuff...

I bought a new WRT54GL and tried to install it but had a problem.
First, I inserted the installation CD as the package says, got to step 7(checking the router lights) and pressed next. The Programm started checking my system settings, got to 99% and then a pop up asked for a password. No matter what I entered, I could press next and the whole thing started again.
I had no idea what password I should enter, tried a few and then used the search here. I stumbled upon a entry where it turned out my problem was I used a static IP. I changed it to a dynamic one and tried again. I could acces the web GUI now which I couldnt before. I thought, do I need the CD? I tried without but I coulndt get an Internet connection, via cable or wireless. I could ping the router, I could get an excellent wireless connection, but no Internet.
Then I tried the CD but it didn't work. Instead of just asking me for the password and then jumping back to the same step, it closed the installation process.

My Question is, how do I get an Internet connection. I'm sure I plugged in everything correctly, and, incase this is important, I have Cable internet.

What should I do? I don't know how to configure it via the Web GUI.

    Thanks

goto its configuration page at http://192.168.1.1 it should have some help menus you can follow of you can reference to the product manual online or on the cd.

Unplug the cable modem, plug the router wan port into the cable modem, plug in the cable modem let it boot then plug in the router. Make sure the router is set to dhcp and you should be good to go.

    Another WRT54GL (version 1.1, firmware v4.30.7) problem:

I have 2 PCs wired on router (wireless disabled). IP Automatic. DHCP turned on. Connecting through PPPoE. So, setting set as default almost.

Yesterday (when still working; PC2 now gets some default IP):
    WRT54GL:
    192.168.1.1

    PC1 (using 100M network card):
    192.168.1.100
    192.168.1.1 (gateway)

    PC2 (using 1Gbit network card):
    192.168.1.101
    192.168.1.1 (gateway)

Everything has been working well, until I yesterday launched torrent file of around 5GB size on PC2. Since then I cannot even ping my own router from PC2 (the one I used for 5GB torrent).

When I unplug and plug again the CAT5e cable I get my PC2 on 'DHCP Clients Table', BUT ONLY FOR ONE (1) MINUTE (then it expires)! PC1 working fine. 'Clients lease time' is set to zero (0; =one day).

Weird though, if I plug PC2's ethernet cable to 'Port 3' I get normal 24 hours (one day) lease time, but when I try back with 'Port 2' it still only dedicates just 1 minute.

How do I fix this problem with 'Port 2'? I'm afraid that if I'll run some torrent again (this time on 'Port 3') I'll "ruin" also the third port (if running torrent file is what caused this problem). Help much appreciated!
