WRT54GL + Tomato performance problem

When I got the router I installed tomato 1.06 - Worked as a charm. No problems anywhere..

Bet then, a week ago, I descided to tryout the DD-WRT firmware. Stupid me.
Transfers (both uploads and downloads) got slow as hell, the connection died, problems problems and more problems.

So yesterday I installed Tomato 1.16 - worked great again! A couple of hours...
Now everything is slow as hell AGAIN. Web browsing works - now and then.. DC++ downloads get speeds like 20-60kb/s, uploads get no speed at all. Starts out normally and a couple of secs later they are down to 0. Torrents go at 1MB/s tops down., no upload whatsoever there either (I've gor 24Mbit down 8Mbit upload).

This is not a port forwarding problem, got all ports set up correctly.. QoS not enabled (tried to enable it but no luck there).

Installed tomato 1.17 today, flushed NVRam, everything back to default config, still same problem.

    Any suggestions? :frown:

can you confirm it is router? have you removed the router out of the equation and everything works?

Yes, that's confirmed, speeds are as they should be when I'm not using the router..

EDIT: I'll try tomato 1.11, googled some more and found someone who had nearly similar problems and 1.11 fixed it. I'll post the result in a few minutes.

EDIT2: It's now flashed to tomato1.11, total reset of memory.. problem still there. I don't get it...

Try not to saturate upload capacity, QoS or limit the upload bandwidth on the p2p application. Enable encrption/randomize ports. If QoS is enabled, use ports that are below 1024 to see if it helps.

You can try Tomato 1.06 or 1.07 to confirm that the failure is the new Tomato firmware.

I'm having very similar speed issues with tomato 1.16 and 1.17 on my whr-hp-g54. I believe there's a serious issue with wireless throughput in these new firmwares as 1.15 fixes my issues. The reason I think it might be the wireless is that streaming from my MacBook pro to PS3 is sooo choppy and bad with the two problematic firmwares that it's unusable. I also only see about 4Mbps down with 1.16/1.17 compared to ~20Mbps down with 1.15 using speedtest.net.

Try version with newer wireless drivers and/or increase tx power levels if your in a densely populated area.

Maybe your power is too high. Did you try turning it down?

I am testing the 1.17 firmware and have noticed problems with the PPPoE connection when I am surfing the connection goes below in net during the night by this time is below the link go to the web 192.168.1.2 panel and see that my connection but I is established by moments (some seconds) without connection but as I said if the panel's web router says that the connection is established in PPPoE.

Also I have had problems with speed router in the bag some time to maximum 1000 KB / s and suddenly drops to 0.9 KB / s or 10 KB / s.

    My Router: Asus WL500GP

    Regards sheerspt.
