    Hello all,

I will try to make this straight.

I have Linksys WRT54GL Router for 6 months with DD WRT on it, that was awful. Then I switched to Tomato.. better.

But still, I have problems with Skype (hes reconnecting permanently, with utorrent... red triangle and no incoming connections and with international WWW- its very slow, local www sites are fast).

Can some one help me out?

I have static IP and a registered MAC from NIC. When I try to frwd a port in router, it still seems to be closed.

    What can I do?

    Thank you.

Which version of tomato are you using? I recommend Victek's 1.23.8513 which should work on your router, as I have the same one. You just upgrade using the DD-wrt gui then do a hard reset.

Read the QoS thread by 'Toastman' as it should help you setup the priorities. What is you download and upload speeds?

I have Tomato Firmware v1.23.1607. Were can I find Victek's?

Down Up speeds are normal. If I plug LAN cable directly into NIC without Router, it is very fast.
With router it is slow.. international is slow, regional is fast in any case.

    speedtest.net:

    Home Town:
    45335 kbps down
    36344 kbps up

    Riga- London:

haha it was connecting and waiting for too long :)

    I pinged skype.com got arround 1200ms, 20% packet loss.
My ISP pinged Skype, got 171ms 0% loss.
    -l 500 bytes.

    Why so!!?

And I just tried to sort out UPno service.
I have got 2 PC,one is using UPnp correctly for skype and utorrent automatically.
The second one isnt using it at all. Settings for both are the same!

In 'Admin>Config' do a NVram erase then reprogram all your settings again.
Are you using QoS? Enter 90% of your speed from speedtest.net and see how it holds up.

Hmm, It helped a little, but I still have massive ping in ms.. 999ms and 1300kbps to London. In Latvia 4ms and 40000 kbps down.

It seems something is wrong with intl traffic.

Qos now is on with 40000kbps. What else can I do.. ?

Which would be a safe setting for Transmit Power in mW (range: 1 - 251; default: 42)? Using no Fan, just the default router config.

ual, Do you have a 45meg line? If its only 5 meg then you input 5000, not 50000 in your QoS, hence there may be you issue. Start with QoS setting 1500 up 4000 down and see if it improves. *may sure your input upload and download speeds in correct box

I use 75 for wireless, no fan.

Ok, I did 5k and 1k, but It doesnt help, I pinged in cmd skype.com, 1700ms average. There is something going on in my router...

Is there a mac clone option in router..?

I have internet only then when I have my static IP and My NIC MAC cloned.. maybe this has something to do with my lagging abroad traffic?

Mac Cloning: Advance > Mac Address > Wan Port

    ok, that already was done.

Ok, skype reconnects all the time... abroad is slow..

maybe I will do better with Victek's 1.23.8513 version of Tomato? Were can I get it, I cant find it over the Gooogle: )

type 'victek is a geek' into google and it'll come up.
remember to NVram clear after upgrade and manually program again.
    Hope it works for you

Victek's Tomato mod won't do anything to improve those atrocious ping times. You've got a network problem somewhere, but, unfortunately, it's hard to say where.

Well, Is there a way how we could get down to the problem...?

Are those ping times with your torrent, etc. running?

If you have a 5 Mbps line, you must enter less than that, perhaps 3500 in QOS max UP speed would be good to start with, or QOS will not work. You must read up on how to use QOS - you will not succeed by blindly entering figures at random into boxes. The default QOS rules in tomato are not going to be much use.

Victek's mod is available from his website here: http://victek.is-a-geek.com/tomato.html

Read about QOS and find example settings here: http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=60304

Let me get this straight: you were having the same problem with DD-WRT firmware, and moving to Tomato made the situation improve slightly?

If so, then you've got network- or computer-related problems, unrelated to, and unfixable by, going to a different firmware.

well... well... maybe the problem is in PC.. But can that be located. I have disabled all start up in msconfig. Nothing. mhm.. I am at work currently and everything is very fast abroad as well. Maybe there is something with router...?
