Does anybody know anything about it. It has appeared on my computer wholesaler's price list and they say that it has "Linux support", whatever that means.

There is no info about WRT54GL on Linksys sites though. Googling gives a couple of answers in different languages, but none of them is informative.

So has anyone heard of WRT54GL?

It's new linux based router which will be ready to support 3rd party firmwares. That's all I know today.

Stange. Almost thought it was a joke, until I saw it listed at several online shops. I hope linksys releases some features and specifications soon :)

Most Likely. Maybe it's just a WRT54G with a free linksysinfo.org account :thumb:

i think that linksys started to sell VxWorks based WRT54G routers and the linux based routers.......for some reason i think that this is what they are doing.

I chatted a bit with chat support (and there is actually one working on sunday!), and got this info about the WRT54GL :

    Release date is in November.
It is like an ordinary wireless G router except that you can modify the GPL codes for the web interface so you can customize it on your own.
Looks like a plain old WRT54G to me. Maybe a V5 with more ram/flash running linux. But we'll have to wait and see ;)

is linksys finally realizing to embrace the fact that ppl are writing 3rd party firmwares for it? I would certainly love to see some omre storage and an easier time adding and chaging stuff.

doing a bit of googling i found some US vendors that have it listed for sale but dont yet have any in stock:

This is a good move for linksys and shows that they do understand their reason for their current place in the market. With the release of the V5 router, I was looking into other manufacturer's similar offerings but now will wait to see what this L version really is.
I suspect that it either is or is based on a V3 or V4 router, or may be GS hardware without the speedbooster software. The second option makes more sense if they are targeting the linux DIY crowd and is certainly the option i would prefer.

Looking at the text on www.linksys.it, it says: "ATTENTION! The NEW product WRT54GL-EU is based on the Linux GPL operating system and is the same as the preceding versions which supported this platform"

So we might simply need to slightly change the wording in our shopping lists

If you look at the LinkSys GPL Code Center, it lists:

    4.30.0 - WRT54GL_v4.30.0.tgz
    4.30.0-EU - WRT54GL_v4.30.0_ETSI.tgz
    4.30.1-DE - WRT54GL_v4.30.1_DE.tgz

So it seems it is continuing from where the WRT54G v4 left off.

    Our distributor has promised me

these things by 25-28 of november (in Estonia).

As all the 54G models sold here are version 5, i will buy a couple of 54GL things as soon as they get here, will post here.
