WRT54GS Disconnecting

Hey guys, I recently purchased the above router and am having some issues with it disconnecting every 20 - 30 mins. I have searched this site many times trying to find any related articles but they all seem focused towards the WRT54G and firmware but there dont seem to be any other firmware updates for the WRT54GS that I can see.

Its configured using Heartbeat and it has no issues connecting it just has a tendancy to disconnect quite frequently. Im using 2.07.1 and Im pretty sure its configured properly.

Would anyone have any ideas on what could cause the disconnections? I have disabled all firewalls, disabled SSID broadcasting, not running any P2P applications. Anything else I have missed? Im running out of ideas.

    Thanks guys,

    James

what firmware are you using and what setting? Telstra cable setting?

if so try adjusting the either of the two settings below...

    Connect on Demand
You can configure the Router to disconnect your Internet connection after a specified period of inactivity (Max Idle Time). If your Internet connection has been terminated due to inactivity, Connect on Demand enables the Router to automatically re-establish your connection as soon as you attempt to access the Internet again. If you wish to activate Connect on Demand, click the radio button. If you want your Internet connection to remain active at all times, enter 0 in the Max Idle Time field. Otherwise, enter the number of minutes you want to have elapsed before your Internet connection terminates.

    Keep Alive Option
This option keeps you connected to the Internet indefinitely, even when your connection sits idle. To use this option, click the radio button next to Keep Alive. The default Redial Period is 30 seconds (in other words, the Router will check the Internet connection every 30 seconds).

Thanks for the quick reply Toxic.

Im using 2.07.1 firmware. Using Heartbeat to connect to the Telstra Cable network. 61.9.192.13 is the IP address for NSW.

I dont think the connection is dying due to inactivity cause it happens when downloading as well. I will try those options though, thanks!

If you have multiple user logons on your wireless PC, you might want to consider the following registry change which worked well for me:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EAPOL\Parameters\General\Global]
    "AuthMode"=dword:00000002 :lol:

    MYS013 or badfish274,

I have a WRT54GS which disconnects from the net intermittently. I'm using PPPOE though.

Have either of you found a solution?

There is a new firmware update out for the WRT54GS which is tried... it did work but wireless speeds were pretty shocking. I ended up using Satori which works perfectly.

If you want me to post the firmware updates for you to download I can?
