hey guys i'm pretty new to this whole wireless thing..problem is i'm pretty certain my bandwidth is getting sucked dry by the teeneragers next door downloading pr0n. any adivce on how to set up an effective wireless access security? i'm currently running v4.70.8, Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor14 [Feb 27 2006] firmware. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best would be to set your security mode to WPA or WPA2 and give yourself a long passkey. Also helps to setup MAC filtering to only allow your own wireless devices to access the net through your router.

If you have no wireless devices that need encryption then just disable wireless all together. That way the neighbor kids have to get their porn addiction somewhere else.

You should be very concerned about security in this case. If you said you never ordered or input any personal information online or on your machine i would say then thats probably ok but if you input or order anything on the same network segment as your wireless then you are in danger. Mac association is the easiest of all "security" to get through, wep being second not to far behind and then WPA which I believe had not been broken yet. What i am getting at is if all you have is mac association, someone can easily capture you mac, spoof theirs and then they are on your network and can work on compromising your other hosts, the ones you do input personal information on. I hope for the sake of you and your family you change your practices as identity theft is no fun and at its highest level to date.
