Hello All, I have used for the last 5-6 years a SMC7004BR and last week decided that is time for an upgrade. After doing a lot of research it appeared that WRT54G/GS was the best choice, with most of the right ingredients in a typical home network setup. Most of all, the linux based firmware, and the huge development effort going on behind the scenes to provide very interesting and versatile firmware alternatives, convinced me to go out and buy bothe models and try them out... I have two kids, and the parental control feature was one of the reasons I wanted this routers. Now the questions: - is there an effective way to use the parental controls in WRT54G? I tried both the official firmware, and some of the alternatives, and I could not find a good compromise. Unless I'm missing something, there is very little use for the functionality in the form present on WRT54G. If there is a way to use the feature, it will save me $20 on the price of the modem, and $49/year, which is significant. - the newer model wrt54GS has a subscription based service, and after starting to use it last night, it looks like this is really the best choice for this service. Unfortunately, it appears that the 3rd party firmware is not supporting this feature, unless again, I may miss something.
