    I use a WRT 54GS v2.0 and Thibor's latest firmware

I have a cable modem (motorola surfboard)

I use WPA with TKIP. I use to lose my internet connection every 24 hrs and had to reboot the the router. I now entered in the Client Lease Time setting the value of 9999 so now I only lose my connection every 7 days. What causes this? What setting must I modify in order to keep my connection permanently?

The latest LINKSYS firmware does the same problem. It must be some problem relating to IP adress renewal but my tech knowledge stops just about here...Can someone help? :)

try setting the client lease time to 1440

however you mention WPA so are you loosing Wireless connection or the router is loosing Internet (WAN) connection?

Try cloning the mac address. then reboot Cablemodem the router. this should give you an new external IP address. make sure MTU is set at Auto or 1500 for cable.

also replace the Cable between the CM and Router just incase it is the cable that is failing.

you could also try reetinng the router to default values.

press the Reset button for 30 Seconds.

Looks like a similar problem to I've been having... except mine even drops the wireless connection entirely sometimes (i.e. the access point disappears) I've tried changing almost every conceivable setting and firmware on the router but its a no go. I haven't tried your suggestion though, ill give it a shot.

For me, DD-WRT v22 basic seems to work best.

how do you upgrade the firmware on a wrt54gs v2? I read up on it and it says I need an .rmt file to do it. The problem is there is a firmware download for the router, but there is no .rmt file in the zip file. Do I have to write it or something?
