WRT54GS v4 - unbricked but sick

I have a WRT54GS v4 that I tried to flash with DD-WRT v23. Whatever I did, it gets part-way through and then fails.

I unbricked it by following a tip here and downloaded a flashing utility from Linksys and using it to install the original image (also downloaded from Linksys).

Now the lights on the router are all OK, and when I hook it up (wired), it seems to work great for the first burst of loading a web site. It then hangs for a while, with no activity showing on the computer. If I reload the web page a couple of times, it usually completes the page.

What are some things that I should try to get this thing working correctly? BTW, I'd rather get it running DD-WRT, but I'll settle for getting this working in any way possible.

I would go through the process of setting it to factory defaults, then reflash with the OG firmware so see if that clears out whatever got a little out of sorts.

Oh yeah, that's the other thing...

When I try to reset to factory defaults using the software, it gives the reset successful message and to wait a second until it gives back the GUI, but it never does. The only thing that gets it back is cutting the power.

I'm afraid that there's something amiss with the hardware, but certainly hope that it is software/firmware instead.

Try to reinstall an original Linksys firmware, and then reset to factory defaults by pressing the hardware reset button for 30 seconds.
