    Hi all,

Which router is better to use with tomato? My old WRT54GS V1.0 (8 MB Flash / 32 MB RAM), or my brand new WRT54GL V1.1 (4 MB Flash / 16 MB RAM)?

Does the less ram on the WRT54GL router means that the tomato firmware can do less on this router?

    Thanks,

Well, the newer one has newer hardware, but the older one has extra memory to support more connections. I suggest using the older one to connect the WAN network. :)

Thanks a lot. I thought that the older router might be more suited to be my permanent solution and keep the WRT54GL for testing purposes, by given the fact that the WRT54GL router is used but more people I thought I should ask first :).

The reason that I was wondering about it, was because my wrt54gs router cause me some problems lately and I thought that it might be because it was old.

The problem that I was experience is the following: If I add 10-15 or more rules in the QOS page after rebooting the router the power led is continuously flashing, even after the router has come up and it seems to be running fine.

Does anybody experience any such problem and does anybody has any solution for it?

    Thanks,

    tomatodude.

I have a very old WRT54G just like your new GL ; and an old WRT54GS (8MB Flash, 32MB RAM).

It makes no difference ... I ran the GL for many years until I realised 5 months ago I had bought the GS for my inlaws and swapped the units...

Didn't change my usage at all.. The GL memory configuration is sufficient for most use.

    Hi jyavenard,

Thanks for the reply. I think I will swap the two routers together and see if the WRT54GL router will show the same problem that I am mentioning above (The power button is flashing continuously).

    Thanks,

    Hi all,

I have just swap the routers. Everything seems to running ok. Also the problems that I had in my old router (read post above) do not seem to exist in the WRT54GL.

I will continue to use the WRT54GL router as my main router for some time to see if I have any problems with this one.
