    Hi! I have a WRT54GS with Alchemy 1.0 installed.

    3 "wired" PCs (static IP)
    2 "wireless" Laptops (static IP)

The 3 wired pcs can access the Internet just fine but my 2 wireless laptops can't. They seem to connect to the router but they can't ping it or any other pc on the network.

I did not change anything on the wireless side from the default settings. Do I need to enable something? I must admit that I am lost after 2 days of trying and not be able to do anything about it.

    p.s. Nice site btw... :D

Why are you using all static IP's, and how did you set them up?

Disabled the DHCP server in the router and assigned static Ips in Windows...

Each wired PC is running a server which need to be reached from "the net" and I don't know how to do this differently.

in case you wanted DHCP for certain occasions, the DHCP server can give all your machines static IPs while still allowing you the option of dynamic IPs for other times. It's on the Administration->Management page in the DHCPd section. Enter the machines in like this, one entry per line (with no trailing carriage-return for the last one, or you get an error):

    192.168.1.x xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx machine_name_for_dns

    such as 00:0C:6E:2B:D1:D9 clay-personal

Thanks. I got tired of trying and I downloaded the most recent beta from Linksys and everything is working great. I guess I'll keep that for a while. :D

Have you tried to use a machine name that long? I tried one that was 9 characters and wrapped to the next line and it gave me an error. I can't remember if I hit the "Enter" key on the last line tho, so just renamed the machine to a shorter name. If you know that it will support longer machine names I will rename it back.

BTW Cool avatar, my dog is named Homer..

I've got these names in mine:

so yeah, it supports fairly long names. If you were getting an error then my guess would be that there was an <enter> as the last character, so give it another shot but make sure you don't have one at the end.

Thanks, that is good to know. I'll try it again and see if it works. Adding just a # on the end didn't really help much in the description so will be glad if the longer machine names work.
