does the latest verion of WRT54GS officially support 128bit or 256bit wpa?

the pdf doc i have says it only supports: TKIP, AES, 802.1x, WEP, Wireless MAC Filtering

if not. then is there 3rd party firmware to add such a feature?

It supports 64bit and 128bit - it's on the product page on Linksys.com.

it actually doesn't say anything about wep or wpa on the page

    http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=610

only thing that hints at supporting wpa is the logo at the bottom of the page that has the wi-fi protected check mark

other then that they throw around the 128 number a bit on the page but dont say if that applies to wep or wpa encryption.

WPA is not common to be quoted as having 128bit - only WEP is.

This is especially the case for Linksys.

If you are still unsure, you can download the PDF user guide - it's in there under Wireless Security.

    Hope this helps.

My guess is that you downloaded the Datasheet.

    User Guide
    ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/wrt54gs_ug.pdf
Scroll to Chapter 5, page 23, Wireless Security section.

I think WEP only calls for 64bit/128bit support, but some manufacturers gave their devices extra strength.

yes thanks! lol. i should have thought of the linksys ftp server, but it didn't occur to me that they would have more info on there.

There is also a URL pointing to the same User Guide in addition to the Datasheet on the product page.
