WRT54Gv2 says WRT54GL, can this be?

I just bought an older WRT54Gv2 (CDF5 = WRT54G v2.0). When I first plugged it in, it displayed WRT54Gv2 on the web interface. I've since upgraded the firmware to 4.30.5. I then noticed that the model number displayed on the web interface says WRT54GL. I also upgraded the firmware since then to Thibor15c and it still displays WRT54GL. How can this be? Has this newer firmware miraculously converted my version 2 into a version L (v.4)? Has anyone else ever noticed this?

It is not that it changed which version you have, but it may of changed the info in the memory.

it has not magically converted your router that would be impossible since the hardware layout is totally different.

the router name is all that has changed.

if you really must have the original name then change it in the main setup page of the GUI.

GL firmware is just a next ver of V4 firmware (4.30.x)
I don't try GL firmware on my V3.1, however (I just don't need it)

I have the same model and applied the same firmware with the same result - it now says it's a WRT54GL
