WRT54GX4 and VoIP

I have seen a couple of threads on this forum regarding the lack of support for VoIP in the WRT54GX4 unless you turn of the firewall. I have the same situation using Sunrocket. Unless I turn off the firewall in my WRT54GX4 the call quality is terrible.

Has anyone found a solution besides disabling the firewall? I found a note from someone claiming that it would work if you assigned the adapter a static ip and enabled port forwarding, but it did not ellaborate. Anyone got it working this way?

    Thanks.

From my testing with Vonage, the beta firmware has NOT fixed the Voip issue. SPI still believes the data flow from my Vonage is a DOS attack and thus purposely drops packets, resulting in severe chopiness in any Vonage phone call.

I believe it has fixed some of the wireless QOS issues tho, but I don't use much wireless or an XBOX so I really cannot test it. Also there is a timezone bug with selecting EST time. It will only result in doing a -4 on the GMT, instead of the correst -5, thus it will be an hour off. Selected the Indiana EST time selection is a work around, however.

Linksys is slow on firmware for SRX400 i am using 1.00.12 and router goes out once in a while and i have to hard restart it :(... They need to release a stable firmware fast.

Interesting. I've been running 1.00.12 for about a week and haven't had any outages. Then again, I haven't done any heavy downloading or gaming with it yet(I did play about an hr of World of Warcraft today tho without issue).

I think the problem started when i added MAC addresses Filtering it started screw up ..

I would forget about MAC filtering, since it really does not add any security. The MAC address is sent in plain text and you can change the MAC address of an NIC. There are ways of detecting of cloning of MAC addresses, but your router will not be able to. I have it on with 1.0.12 just to test.

You are trying MAC filtering with the firmware 1.0.12 -or- you are testing MAC cloning detection?

I have been running firmware 1.0.12 with a VPN connection for a shart periond of time, about 3 hours and have only lost 3 packets, with MAC filtering on. VPN clients are very sensitive to packet loss and will disconnect if the packet loss exceeds a threshold. The beta firmware seems to be very stable.

How do you tell if MAC filtering is causing an issue? I have been running with MAC filtering enabled from Day1 with the WRT54GX4.

    Thanks.

Does anyone know what is causing the problem ? beowulf777 I don't know what is causing my wireless to go down often even after 1.00.12 upgrade but i am trying to figure it out too :( But i haven't been able to pin point it...

new beta 1.00.15 is available from Linksys for the WRT54GX4. This solves the firewall-VOIP DOS issue, plus the clock (EST 2 hrs ahead) and DDNS custom setting problem I experienced. I worked with a very helpful guy at Linksys (yes, read that again!) and he interfaced with the engineering group to troubleshoot the firewall VOIP "choppy audio" DOS issue. Good service, but why, oh why did it take them until the middle of March '06 to acknowledge and troubleshoot this router?
