Beta Firmware 1.00.13 is out if you can find it.

new beta 1.00.15 is available from Linksys for the WRT54GX4. This solves the firewall-VOIP DOS issue, plus the clock (EST 2 hrs ahead) and DDNS custom setting problem I experienced. I worked with a very helpful guy at Linksys (yes, read that again!) and he interfaced with the engineering group to troubleshoot the firewall VOIP "choppy audio" DOS issue. Good service, but why, oh why did it take them until the middle of March '06 to acknowledge and troubleshoot this router?

I can confirm that beta firmware 1.00.15 is unstable.
Wireless pcs disconnect randomly, and speeds on wireless cards drop below 54mbs.

Version 1.00.13 is the most stable.

    .15 unreliable - how?

I am the guy who got the .15 from Linksys. How did I do this? I faxed a letter to their HQ in Irvine and told them their wrt54gx4 stunk to high heaven, and their first line "tech support" stunk even worse. "Customer support" obviously are not in contact with the engineers, they denied there was any problems with the .10 firmware. They just read from a script.
After my fax, four hours later, I got a personal call from an engineer from Linksys, who troubleshot my problems, gave me .13 to try. It didn't fix VOIP, so he went back to the dev group and he coughed up .15 three days later. I think we in this forum are the only ones who have access to .15. I had a few issues with .10:
    VOIP DoS.
Time was messed up - GMT was 2 hours ahead (fixed now but still shows GMT-4 instead of -5 for EST in .15!).
DDNS custom setting for DynDNS did not work.
.13 fixed everything except the DoS.
It's true you upgrade to .15 then do a hard reset to make it work. I'm surprised some folks find it unreliable - it's a heck of a lot better than .10 -.13.....................

Did you do a full master reset, after loading 1.00.13? I ask because I didn't and it didn't fix my Vonage issue either. However, I read where someone said it did but you had to do a full master reset of the router. After I did that, 1.00.13 DID fix the Vonage issue(DOS attack) for me.

no, never did a master set with .13 so I couldn't tell whether that would have fixed VOIP. However, my secret contact :) seemed to be unaware of any VOIP DoS issue until he went back to the engineers............go figure
