WRT610nv2 Reboot loop : Power Adapter

    Hi All,

I have a WRT610n v2 without the original adapter. I bought it used without the original power adapter. The stock firmware was working fine however I did not test it long enough.

I flashed Dd-wrt mini and then ultimately shibby 2.6 big VPN firmware onto it. The router now randomly reboots itself and sometimes goes into continuous reboot loops with all LEDs flashing. The power LED sometimes keeps flashing and sometimes becomes solid with access to the web interface. I have tried the 30/30/30 reset as well. During the reboot loops it briefly gives access to the default ping address and then keeps rebooting varaibly.

I read on the router it has a rating of 12V - 2A on the sticker. However the adapter I am using at the moment is 12V - 1A. I usually never cared about the power rating on my previous WRTSL54GS and GL and have used the same adapter on different models. In fact the current linksys 12V-1A adapter is original linksys adapter from a previous model.

Is it possible that due to the lower current output of the adapter the router is behaving randomly erratic. Fortunately i never lost connection during the firmware flashes till now to end up with an expensive brick.

Should I try changing the adapter to the rated power or can it be something bad on the router board.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well since no help was there. I tried myself and was able to solve.

It was indeed the power adapter related behavior, hooked up an adapter with the correct (or even higher Amp rating would work since the device would only consume required current) rating and the router is now running with latest shibby build.

Just posted so it may come in handy for someone in the same situation.
