Damn, wish i could buy a WRTSL54GS here in Germany. Any sources of availability yet? I mailed Linksys but either they could not answer my question, they dont know when this product will be available. Mhhh, they announced :drinking: back at cebit 2006.
Toxic, you were trying to get hold of someone in linksys to ask, did you find out anything ? my company's having a cable line installed on the 30th, and I really wanted one ready for that day. I'm concerned about ordering a wrt54gs in case a vxworks one turns up :-/ and though I wont use it straight off, I would like the media port. What are peoples thoughts on using a US device in the UK? the only issue is the available wireless frequencies right? could a US device be flashed to UK firmware to fully make it the same as an official UK one ? Cheers.
What about the WRT54GL? I believe that is already available in Europe, and you know for sure it's the flexible Linux version.
i am still waiting word from here she had replied saying she would find out for me. i'll give it a few days and ask again.
there are no issues with importing from the US, aside from the fact that the US uses a different power adaptor, and only 11 channels; but they are both solved very easily
"SpeedBooster" for what moderate improvement it gives, is a software thing. Units that ship with it, have different firmware. If you go 3rd-party you can enable or disable it as you please. In the DD-WRT firmware you'll find it on the Wireless->Advanced page and it's called by it's common name "Afterburner". I never use this mode, but you can if you want, simply by loading non-Linksys firmware on any GL unit and flipping a single toggle.
power issues wrt54gl : it would still have half the flash and half the ram though.... So what IS needed to run a US wrtsl54gs in the uk (3pin 240v). do they come with 2 part transfomers so all you'd need is a 3 pin kettle leed to replace the US 2 pin on with ? and the transformer just detects and runs ok with the 240v power supply from the mains? or ?
I have a WAG54GX2 that I was planning on selling once I got the WRTSL54GS, would the UK power supply from that work with a US WRTSL54GL with no modification required on either part?
Unfortunately I cna now confirm the availability of the WRTSL54GS is a no go in Europe though something better is due out but later this year.
So, maybe they anounce something on IFA/Berlin (http://www1.messe-berlin.de/vip8_1/website/MesseBerlin/htdocs/www.ifa-berlin/en/Visitors/index.html) its from 1.9.2006 - 6.9.2006. Did someone got any closer information now?
