Hey Simon, you should consider hosting a copy of that.

With one *important* addition, namely a reminder about using a STRONG password. Considering the number of people that leave their password as admin.

Me, I would not expose an FTP port to the script kiddy world, it will get pounded with password attempts all day long. Last time I left SSH on port 22 on exposed machine it was getting hit every 2 minutes.

You may wanna try enabling the FTP option on the router so you can view your files over the internet.

Do not recommend doing it at the edge

First off i dont recommend running the ftp server in a way that allows someone to logon without doing so securely. That being said, make sure the folders you want to allow are allowed via the ftp server tap under storage. Personally i just allow all. Also under the Share Access button, make sure the user account that was create is listed in the window on the right under Allowed group access. Other then that i dont see any reason it should not work.

If all you want to do is share photos you may want to try an online service. Kodak EasyShare Gallery, Yahoo! Photos and Snapfish are three sites that allow you to post. Your friends and family can view them and download, print or have prints made of the ones they like.

I prefer Kodak . . . for the price of purchacing one print you can upload all you want for one year. For around $25.00 a year you get your own web site for a year. The best thing of all is you don’t open yourself up to problems and you now have a back up of your photos…

Thats a good suggestion, however most of us figure if we have the capabilites with the equipment we have at home, why spend more money on something else. That and we get so stubborn about wanting something to work the way we want it too, we wont give up until that happens. :)
