WRTSL54GS - Problem with attached HD

Every once in a while, my WRTSL54GS running Thibor 17 rc3 seems to forget about the attached NTFS formatted hard drive. A reboot of the WRTSL54GS solves the problem, but it is very annoying. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with when attached USB Seagate drive spins down when not used because this occurs when the drive has not spun down and the drive spins back up fine when this intermittent problem is not happening. Here are a couple of screen shots of the router's config pages. The first one when all is normal. The second when the WRTSL54GS seems to have forgotten about the drive. The problem is not unique to Thibor 17 rc3 as it happens in stock firmware as well.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

The problem maybe the firmware not wakening the drive up again, but the SL is not spinning it down. that must be part of the HDD build. are you able to set the HD to NOT spin down in the first place.

I am using a Hitachi drive on my SL have no problem with HyperWRT or stock firmware since the HDD never spins down in the first place.

I don't believe I can set the HD so that it won't spin down. I don't think that is the problem, however. The HD usually spins back up just fine. And almost every time I lose the drive it is while it is still spinning. The HD is a 400GB Pushbutton Backup ST340083. I am trying a new USB cable now, but it is too early for results.
