    Hello All,

I am new to this. Thanks to all for this great resource. I recently bought a WRTSL54GS. It works great and decided to use it completely and attached a Seagate FreeAgent Pro 320GB USB External HD to the WRTSL54GS.

I changed the Workgroup to match my home LAN and I can see it on all PCs (Ethernet & Wireless) and can access it fine.

I also setup the DynDNS to access my Router from Outside - all fine until now.

However, How do i access this HDD from outside. My questions is - When I use my DynDNS domain, it directly takes me to my Router and I can only enter using the Admin ID/Pwd for the router.

Question 1: How can I access the USB drive from outside as Admin?
Question 2: How Do I allow a guest access to the same USB HDD?

Please shed some light on this matter. Earnestly waiting for a reply.

    Thanks in advance.

what firmware are you using? Linksys original or 3rd party (Thibor, DDWRT).

I think there is a possibility to connect using FTP. I do have a SL (with thibor on it), but I have not used the storage link in a while. FTP is probably your best bet. Create user logins and try to connect to it.

Thanks so Much For the Reply.

The issue is that the Web Utility (interface) to the Router @ does not offer the FTP Option.

I found that My Status Tab Shows Firmware Version : v2.00.1, Nov. 7, 2005 BUT - On the linksys site, i see the Firmware for my Model as 2.06.0 10/27/2006 Version.

Even the Linksys User Guide PDF Document DOES NOT have FTP option in the Storage TAB on any of the screen shots. The Guide is at http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...nksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=6784839789B06

I think I must do a factory Reset - then Access the Utility with Admin password and then see if i get a FTP Option in the Storage TAB - If I dont - I presume a Firware issue.

    Please advise. Thanks.

It was a Firware issue - Flashed the New Firmware and under STORAGE tab, got a new option for FTP

Now, just need to work on that - I think I will play with it and figure it out.
THanks a lot for all the help !!
    Cheers !

I would recommend HyperWRT Thibor17RC3 firmware for this. it gives added features and has a better responding ftp server. www.thibor.co.uk

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I visited http://www.thibor.co.uk and looks impressive (and beats me)

However, since I am new, Let me ask - Will it have a GUI like the Original Firmware - Can I revert to it by a Factory Default if things go wrong ?

I am no expert on this stuff but unless you dont play - you dont learn right - So i am gonna give it a shot anyways....

Yes. Thibor's firmwares keep the original firmware's GUI, but with added features & options. You can also revert to factory default at any time should you not like 3rd party firmware. Just download the appropriate one from the Linksys website.

    Thanks Again !

Will WRTSL54GS with HyperWRT SL Thibor17rc3 support NTFS for read and write to USB disk from LAN/Internet ?

Per http://www.thibor.co.uk/, it says "Added GUI RW support for NTFS, REISERFS, EXT2, EXT3, FAT, FAT32. Only FAT32 can be claimed by the router though. Perhaps a skilled user will make the mkfs.ntfs, mkfs.reiserfs, mkfs.ext2, etc as addons" for Verizon 15a.

Which format would you suggest ?
