I have a Linksys WRV200 VPN router and I am tried to set it up so I can have remote access and utilize the VPN feature.

We connect through a DSL modem and we have requested a static IP address which they have provided. The ISP has changed the DSL modem to bridged mode.

However, they still had me to set the WRV200 internet connection type to DHCP. It currently shows:

Internet Connection Type: Automatic Configuration - DHCP

    IP Address:

Am I correct that I need to change the router configuration to static? Or should I be able to still access my router even though they have it configured as DHCP?

Also, I need to use VPN clients and I have a camera system that I want to view across the internet. Is it preferrable to have the static IP address in the router?

As for the router WAN settings. Everything depends on the Internet Service Provider (ISP) requirements. In any case. The address seems to be acquired from the DSL modem, not from the ISP. So, is is safe to assume, the DSL modem is not configured correctly, or you received wrong WAN settings from ISP.
