My first shot at vpn, this looked like an easy solution, guess not. I have a 2k server workgroup hooked up to the wrv54g, I can make the quick vpn connection from my remote xp pro machine, I can map to the public folder on the server, but when I try to open it, the hour glass is up for a couple miniutes and then I get an error saying the drive is no longer available, when I first map the drive it shows the correct properties of the public folder, I can create a test folder with a small file in it (55k) and I have no problem opening that one, I also mapped a drive to one of the desktops and had the same results
Any help would be much apreciated

Try changing the MTU from Auto to Manual and setting it to a lower value, say 1400, and see if it helps. This is on the first config page of the WRV54G web based admin ;)

I did a mtu ping test an all pcs involved the router ended up about 1380 before it was stable, I still have pretty much the same result. I set up a remote desktop connection through the router and that works fine, if I try to run remote desktop through the vpn it starts to bring up the screen and it stalls followed by an error for the network connection. I'm using firmware rev 2.37.1 and I reset defaults before I upgraded. This router also has a problem rebooting, sometimes it hangs up and I have to power it down. Do I have a problem with the router?

You could always try beta firmware 2.37.13. I'm running that right now and it seems to be better than 2.38.

TAZ, who would I have to talk to about posting 2.37.13 here?

I'm just a normal poster like yourself, but I guess PMing one of the mods is probably the best method :D

    update on progress,
installed firmware 2.37.13, it seemed to help with the reboot issue, it has happened once since the upgrade. The vpn issue was still there, I turned the mtu way down( 1100) and it worked, I brought the setting up to about 1225 before it started hanging, that is where I left it for now, I'm hoping for some better firmware soon. I'm convinced they don't have it right.
    Thanks Taz & DocLarge,
    will post any new results

You shouldn't need to make it that low, sounds like either the PC or server have something set wrong :?

I went to a friends house and connected to network at 1400 without a problem, went home and replaced DI-624 router with a WRT54G I had, all is well with the connection. I still have the router hanging up on reboot once and a while, but with any luck I can leave it up now. Thanks again everyone
