Hi guys wondering if you could help me.
I keep loosing my connection due to some odd DNS issue. Now a possible solution has been suggested where I need to 'manually adjust the tcp tracking connection settings on my router'. the eg I was given was with a WRT54G and 3rd party software.
So what Im wondeirng is this possible with the WRV54G firmware or is there a 3rd party firmware out there that could be upgraded onto my WRV54G to do this? Thanks for any suggestion or help.

The source code for the WRV54G is not complete, this is due to some of the code being incompatable with the GNU GPL and may have its own licensing laws.

so compiling thh linksys source code is a no go, and therefore no 3rd party firmware is available.

So there really isnt an option then is there?Except buy a router, maybe WRT54G, and set it up with the 3rd party firmware? Was looking at the new N routers, will I have the same issue with this Toxic, do you know or aware?

Every so often maybe least once a day I loose connection to my ISPs DNS Servers only. The DSL light on the Zyxel 630 (supplied dsl modem) stays on but just all of a sudden instead of being able to browse my name i can only browse by IP. I have replaced the Modem with a Netopia from another ISP, Ive also taken out my local Linksys router just incase. To fix the issue usually I just turn off the Zyxel and Linksus wait a min and turn it back on, but not always the case sometimes this goes on for hours.
There are NO phones in the house and only the one socket, i have tried this both with and without the splitter. There are 3 clients on LAN side and its not virus or spyware as all 3 are effected at the same time. I could use another DNS server but I'm wanting to know has anyone else come across this or have any idea's as the cause of this. Im close to the exchange and there are a couple of ppl experiencing the same issue, it was suggested to 'manually adjust the tcp tracking connection settings on my router' and have the modem work as a bridge and this brings me to here.

Never come across that myself, can you ping your ISP's DNS server when it goes down?

Not sure what they mean by that, are they referring to the routing table?

    How is it currently configured?

    Hi Taz,

Sorry for the delay in replying.
Its basically an issue where people using torrent and in my case aswell LARGE WOW updates(which is torrent aswell) loose the ABILITY TO BROWSE BY DNS.
    as described here.
    http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,13310012?hilite=bittorrent+wrt54g

Originally it was configured as my ISP Modem,as a modem\router (creating the PPPoE connection) connected into my WRV54G also setup as a Router.
Its now setup as my WVR54G creating the PPPoE connection to my ISP and the modem is alone setup as only a bridge, the issue occours in both setups.
As for pinging my ISPs DNS Servers at time of disconnection, I actually cant remember, but I think the answer is yes.
I hope these answer your question and may come up with a resolve for this issue as otherwise I might be selling my WRV54G so I can get a WRT54G with 3rd Party sw.

BitTorrent creates tons of connections which causes problems for most routers. With the standard firmware there's no way to change the settings mentioned in that thread and there aren't any real 3rd party firmwares you could use either. The closest thing to it is this http://www.jungo.com/openrg/openrg.html
