WRVS4400N v1.1(!) from Amazon Germany

Hi there. I Just got my WRVS4400N I bought on amazon Germany after (or should I say despite?) reading a lot. I guess I believe in future firmware improvements...

To make it short, it is hardware version 1.1 which is not available in the dropdown-fields on any linksys support-site, is not noisy at all (not even a slight whistling or anything), and it was shipped with firmware 1.xx.xx-ETSI (ETSI is europe, I guess? Can anybody confirm this?)

Here's where the problem starts: I immediately upgraded to v1.01.03, which showed up as "v1.01.03-ETSI", but had horrible stability problems (Yes, I did the hardcore reset action! More than once!):

The router rebooted at almost every config change, hung at at least every 2nd reboot so I had to power cycle it, reset itself to factory defaults twice...

Now I am back to V1.00.16 (without "ETSI") by using the recovery tool. This firmware seems stable, but I am missing some very handy functions: Static DHCP and more, which were obviously introduced after V1.00.16.

Has anybody got a shiny new v1.1 off Amazon Europe and can tell me the defaul Firmware version that's running on it? Has anybody got this firmware for me?

Has anybody any info about the 1.1 hardware and firmware for it?

Too bad I didn't at least write down the version number...

As a summary and warning, the v1.1 hardware seems to be ok after 48h ot extreme testing, but firmware v1.01.03 seems to be NOT for 1.1 devices.

    Thanks in advance!

    Stefan

you may find in time there will be the v1.1 WRVS4400N original release of firmware, however it is so new that I guess they have not released it as a download as yet.

why did you upgrade the firmware with an unsupported firmware? this may cause issues with the 1.1

I shall try to enquire from linksys about this version.

I saw the v1.1 only after upgrading - I was searching the net für about two weeks and always only found 1.0, so I didn't really think about the possibility that mine was not a 1.0

Maybe you can get some info about 1.0 to 1.1 hardware changes or anything else, woud be nice.

    Thanks again!

Ok, according to a Linksys business support representative i just talked to some hours ago, v1.0 and v1.1 are firmware-compatible (i.e. only minor hardware changes, perhaps the rotten squeeking coil?...)

He told me that the current 1.01.03 that's available for the 1.0 version can be flashed on the v1.1, too and that the website will be changed to include v1.1 "soon".

    Thanks,

    Stefan

    Edit:

Works: Factory defaults, flash, factory defaults, hardcore-60s-reset*, config...

    Edit 2:

v1.1 added to the German Linksys site:

I also have a v1.1 hardware version with -ESTI after the firmware..

But i made the same "fault" and upgrade my v1.1 hardware version to a 1.1.03 firmware and recover and again try to upgrade it to 1.1.03 firmware. From linksys download page for v1.0 hardware.

But can someone send the original firmware with the -ESTI to my mail:

    thx

I found this page in Linksys website:

    http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...nksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=4977978865B04

They report a v2 version of WRVS4400N (in bottom of the page).
I know there are 1.0 and 1.1 hardware versions (the 1.1 seems not to have the high pitch noise, mine is 1.1 and it is quiet), but there will be a v2 hardware or software version? (maybe both?)
Looking at the web page it seems there will be a v2 hardware version, for this one there will be a new firmware version with TrendMicro Protectlink Gateway hosted service, and it is planned for november 2008, but for v1.x there is only a "TBD" acronym.

    To Be Defined?
    To Be Decided?
    To De Done?
    To Be Discontinued?

There will be no new firmware for hardware versions 1.x (like other Linksys products)?
I must keep the buggy 1.01.03 (or the 1.01.08 beta) firmware version?
I must buy a WRVS4400N hardware v2 in order to get a new firmware version?
What could be the hardware changes in the v2 hardware version?

    Someone knows something more?

    Thank you.
    Sandokan.

What's the latest current verdict and status on WRVS4400N V1.x firmware?

I just bought two of these routers for their VPN connectivity capabilities alone.
I know they've had a bunch of problems a couple of years ago when I bought one (hardware V1,0) and I wound up returning it for a refund. Now 2+ to 3 years later... any improvements? I bought my 2 current V1.1 version hardwares for about $100 each (so they were cheap enough where I was willing to take the chance with then again). Searched the net for info but there seems to be not much progress nor activity for this router. I read in dslreports Linksys forums that someone recommends only to use firmware v1.1.08. The latest posted official firmware on Cisco Linksys business router site is v1.1.13 which I have also downloaded but have not applied yet. I don't have any idea which firmware is the best for reliable client VPN connecting with QVPN and which holds up its wireless connections. Any comments anyone? I've been running one WRVS4400N on firmware v1.1.03 and it seems to hold up its wireless mixed b/g/n mode okay. Only today internet web pages started to choke and take a long time to load. Rebooting the router and cable modem fixed it back to fast response. So not sure what happened there (router or cable modem/ISP fault). I suspect most likely the router went south after running several days perfectly fine. I have not had a chance to go outside my own network and try to VPN in. So cannot comment on if it works or works reliably or not. I want to know from all you WRVS4400N users... what is the best firmware version to use for stable performance today?

Does anyone know exactly what the differences are between the V1.0 and V1.1 hardware versions? What changed (besides the high freq pitch noise)?
    Thank You?!

I had heard that v1.1 done AES encryption on IPSec VPNs. DocLarge should know.
