WVC54G motion detection email alert

    Trying to get the email alert working on the Wireless G camera. It's connected wirelessly to my hub and you can access it via the internet fine.

    When I setup the motion detector and try and get the camera to email me I just get an error "05/12/2005 11:44:49 Send e-mail error.". I have setup the authentication the same as my pc mail account which is working and have also placed in the SMTP address the IP address of the SMTP server my computer uses.

    I seem to remember somewhere someone saying something about not being about to send emails when the camera is wireless but it can when wired !! Is this the case ?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I have the same camera. I don't get an error. Mine just doesn't work. I talked with Linksys. They acted like they didn't know anything about it.

    I takled to linksys also about the problem WVC54G e-mail alerts , and They seem to didn't know about that. Also I couldn't get WPA PSK security to work with WRT54GS (WEP, no security and wired connection works like a charm) and They said that if the settings are the same it should work (but acctualy it doesn't and I don't know how to make it work...)

    WPA security works on mine. Make sure you have the SSID name on the WVC54G the same as your router. Also make sure it set on Infrastructure.

    I would really like the email feature to work. Also has anyone noticed that if it's unplugged and plugged back in right away it won't come on. I have to wait for a few mintues to get it back on. When I talked to them, they didn't know anything about that too.

    Hi, my WVC54G camera is working fine except for the motion detect and e-mail alerts, the first time I set it up I got the same error as you did, but now, the system log doesn't show any error or activity of sending e-mails...
    I reloaded the firmware and restored the factory default, then I tested wired and wireless, but nothing happend
    Today I chated with the guys of Linksys support and after a while they suggested me to return the unit.
    But now I am outside of the country for a while, then I would like to do something to solve this problem, any suggestion.

    Where did you get that erro message? In the Log page of the Web interface? I never see anything there from failed email even though it's been failing form day on.

    That seems to be normal because of the type of persistent memory they use in the firmware. It takes about a minute to lose its former content after power is removed and you can only boot up successfully if that memory is in the initial clear state.

    WVC54G Email Alert finally working/power-off issue

    I had to load old firmware v2.07 in order for the email alert to work. Everything is working fine now...I still have a power off issue if the temperature rises above 80F but I have drilled holes in the side of the plastic and it seems to help, I think I'll drill a couple more since it is summer and is facing the afternoon sun out a window in a room without air conditioning-can't hurt the warranty is already shot!

    same here...

    i've recently got the same camera and have the same problem.

    Hardly seems worth contacting Linksys....

    Success!

    Just found v2.12 firmware on linksys' ftp site.... and just received my first email alert from the camera!

    Trying different combinations and heres what i have so far:

    * wired to my router (WAG54G) video attachments disabled: WORKS
    * wired to router, video enabled (5 secs): EMAIL sent, but cant view attachments - not exactly the cameras fault....
    * wireless (static IP), video enabled: EMAIL sent ok

    In all cases, i'm not using any security encryption.

    Hope that helps someone...

    Now if i can just find a damn codec for the video....

    5.1 (UK) firmware works too

    quick update for anyone interested....

    I never managed to successfully view video attachments sent from the 2.12 firmware, so i have just tried the v5.10 firmware available at

    .... and it works! email alert sent and the attachment is watchable.
