won't work on my BEFW11S4

I've been running a BEFW11S4 V4 for over two years now. For the first year and a half, there were zero problems. Then, back in April, I had connectivity issues with some websites, so I updated the firmware, and everything was OK again ... until today.

I now have zero network access (hardwire or wireless) with the router. I have full access when I bypass the router (that's how I'm working at the moment). I am unable to communicate with the router with either Internet Explorer or Firefox using I am also unable to ping (I get the message "Destination host unreachable").

I have tried shutting down several times, and restarting, to no avail. And I've tried several network cables (all of which work OK when going straight from the cable modem to the PC).

Any ideas? Everything worked OK yesterday, and I really don't think I changed anything.

You typed 129.168... several times are you sure your not doing that when your pinging?

Thanks for the reply ... and you make a good point ... but, no, I was typing it in correctly (i.e. when pinging. And just to make sure, I just tried it again ... correctly ... with no luck.

what IP address do you get when plugged into it?
connect it back in the way it was and run ipconfig /all and see what your IP is... is it a 192.168.1.x ip?

Try holding the reset button for 30 seconds and see if it works then...

I have the same problem. Tried everything, I am running XP Media 2005.
A friend said it's dead, buy a new WRT54G. Do you agree?

    I don't agree yet.

Sorry for the late reply, I got called out of town on business for a few days ...

I had tried holding the reset button previously, and that did not help. But, on returning from my trip (during which the system was left on, because I forgot to turn it off), I tried pinging again just for kicks and giggles. To my amazement, that worked ... so then I went back to IE and tried to converse with the router, and that worked, too ... and I was able to "upgrade" the firmware (actually reloaded identical version).

Now, everything seems to be working properly, but I have no idea why. Thanks for the suggestions.
