i have a wrt54g router (who here doesn't lol) v4, and i recently got it. i just found out that the wireless card i have for my palm device only uses wep security. i would like to use wpa for my laptop. what i would like to do is have 2 wireless lans. i will upgrade the firmware and put in some cooling devices into it soon, once i get everything up and running.

the wep network will only need to have access to the internet for browsing. the wpa will need access to all the files. i also have a d-link (yes i know  . waiting for it to die) router acting as my gateway, and the linksys one is only for wlan and lan.

all my computers use the d-link router as a gateway. dhcp is assigned by the d-link. the linksys one does nothing but continue the network.

right now i only need an answer to know if it can be done. if it can, i'll give more information. if it cant, no internet for the palm.

i am not aware that you can do it with the stock linksys or the other firmwares discussed here. I think Brainslayer (DD-WRT) may have something in the next release (v24) but nothing current. I have almost the same issue, i have some older devices that are B with WEP and some newer ones that are speedbooster G. I use my old Compaq iPaq connection point access point for the B devices and my WRTs for the rest. There are some cheap wireless access points out there ($10 for one at CompUSA last week) that you could hang off one of the routers to serve the WEP clients, etc. Make sure to have some separate on channels and also physically.
