I was recently discussing with someone about which version has unused RAM. According to the Autopsy article on our LinksysInfo.org site, version 2.2 has 32MB RAM, but the other person pointed out the Wiki entry below, and according to that it has 16MB. In fact, no WRT54G has 32MB RAM except for "revision XH units of the WRT54G v2.0".

Can someone please confirm or provide empirical validation that version 2.2 has 32MB? Thanks, much appreciated.

As I understand it, You will need to check inside to be sure. Some version 2.2 came with 32 megs and some did not.

Well, just to add more confusion to the pot, I own a WRT54G v2 Rev XH, and it has 16 megs of ram.

There are other v2 XH revisions that have 32 megs, but the only way to know for sure is to open it up and look.

My v2 XH unit contains 2 x IC42S16400-6T chips. This is what you will find in all the v2 16 meg models. The 32 meg version contains 2 x IC42S16800-7T chips.

As for the v2.2, I'm not as sure. The 16 meg v2.2 contains 1 x Hynix HY5DU281622ET. I believe if it has 1 x Hynix HY5DU561622DT, then it is 32 megs.

In any case, only 16 megs are recognized either way, unless you unlock it, which seems very prone to bricking the unit. Also, unlocking the extra memory has shown no real benefit in speed or functionality AFAIK.

Thats all I know. Hope it helps.

Every v2.2 has 16MB of ram, and some v2 rev XH has 32MB.
