It looks that 54G v3.1 has the same chipset than 54GS v2.1

Looking at http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=6, they look very similar

    * Processor speed is quite same (216Mhz vs. 200Mhz)
    * Memory size is same 32Mo (it is said that G use only 16Mo, but are the 16 other Mo available for other firmware like DD-WRT, HyperWRT?)

    Main differences are
    * The flash is 8Mo for GS. Is it really useful, as free firmware are made for G as well, and seems to keep the <4Mo rule?
    * radio component (BMC2050KML instead of BMC2050). Do we get better range with GS and G? Can it be changed through firmware by increasing output power?

About the SpeedBooster, is it done by hardware, or by soft inside the firmware? In the last case, does it mean that we may get speedbooster feature with a 54G by using open firmware?

If open-firmware can compensate the small hardware difference, is there some other good reason to buy a GS instead of a G?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Yes. Hold it up to the light and look through the vent. If you see a square of light because the motherboard is "L" shaped, then you got speedbooster. ;)
