Just got up the nerve to flash a brand new WRT54GS v4 to DD-WRT v23 - I want to try to use this as a hardware firewall/WAP.

Flash went perfect. Configured as much as I could from the GUI.

Now, I want to attempt to use Firewall Builder to create some basic rules (nothing fancy) - basic http(s), ftp (client), DNS (client), NTP, POP, SMTP, RDP (outbound), NNTP - should be sufficient.

    1) Will the PPTP, L2TP and IPSEC passthrough options still work once the Firewall rules have been setup and loaded? or will they be ignored favoring the real FW rules? This one is important as we must be able to use VPN from inside to an Internet server.

    2) Is there any way to determine how much room I have left to play with on this box? I hear mixed info on what the actual configuration is on the v4 routers.

I am most impressed with all the information I've been reading so far. I just haven't stumbled on the direct answers to these questions.

    Any help would be appreciated.
