I installed tomato shibby version 1.28 on my belkin paly max N600 (F7D8301) dual band router. Somehow it shows the 5Ghz interface is down and I can only see the SSID of the 2.4GHz interface. The router is behind an AT&T uverse modem/router and it is getting dynamic IP from there uverse router. I am new to the custom firmware stuff. Can someone point me where to start to troubleshooting. Thanks.

Which version did you really try?
Shibby mod version name is currently at 115

The 1.28 refers to the original polarcload Tomato version: http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato

Go to the about page of your router.
    Mine says: Tomato Firmware 1.28.0000 MIPSR2-115 K26 USB RT-N53

1.28 refers to the original tomato, where the MIPSR2-115 K26 USB RT-N53 stands for the actual shibby compile version.

You may be right, Mate Rigo.

brakepad, is your Basic->Network 5Ghz channel on auto? Have you tried to set a specific channel?

Have you seen Shibby's video about 5GHz troubes? http://tomato.groov.pl/?p=524
It's for another model router but clearing nvram and rebooting may help.
Also FYI, clearing nvram will erase your settings...you'll need to re-enter them after.

We'll probably never know what actually happened to the OP.
