I have an HP LaserJet 1200 setup on a WPS54G, everythign works fine. I now have to add the printer on multiple computers on a small office LAN. Do I need to run the installation CD each time? It adds the Print Server Utility and sets another Diagnostic Utility to run in real-time. I'd rather not have to do this.

Can I just install manually through the Windows Add New Printer utility? If so, what settings do I use? Thanks.

If you set the WPS54G as a DHCP client, you will have to install the PrintServer utility on each computer, If you are using a static IP Address you can atdd a TCP/IP port when instlling the printer with the static IP Address of the printserver.

I have it set with a static IP. When I add the TCP/IP port, it says "...detected device is of unknown type." It gives me a long list of Device Types to choose from, but Linksys isn't an option. If I leave it as a Generic Network Card, it sets the port as follows:

    SNMP: No
    Protocol: Raw, Port 9100

Should these settings work? I can also use the Custom option, but I didn't know what the settings should be for Raw, LPR, or SNMP.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Adding network printer to other PC´s

    Hi Dave,

I dealed with exactly the same problem with an HP PSC 1210 for two days.

I installed it first in a WinME wired desktop, running both server and PC setup utilities.

When I tried to instal in two others wired WinXP SP2 desktops and a wireless WinXP SP2 laptop I get same messages you explain in your initial post.

After several hours of try-and-error, I decided uninstal server setup wizard from all computers except the first one (WinME).

What I did in the other three machines was:

    1) Instal HP printer as local to load printer driver, and returned it to the erver connection.
    2) Add a new printer via WinXP option using the printer driver you previously loaded in the system. If the system doesn´t find the correct driver, select one from the list you get from Windows. i.e. HP laserjet 5P.
    3) Once the new printer is installed, go to printer propierties and change the HP laserjet 5P driver for the correct one that will display in the list.
    4) Repeat same steps in each compiter.

I know it sounds crazy, but I have now working OK my 3 wired desktops and my wireless laptop with a HP PSC 1210 USB attached to a WPS54G printer server wireless connected to the network.

    Hope it helps.
