Anyone have advice on the safest way to flash an offsite remote RV082 router?

I use two RV082's for a gateway-to-gateway VPN. I want to flash the remote firmware.

Should I flash it while connected in the VPN tunnel using the download of the firmware on the remote computer or should I flash it from here using my local version of the firmware ?

And should the flash be started using my VPN Rv082 IP address ( or the remote internet gateway IP address?

A mistake means absolute chaos and an expensive plane ticket.

    Thanks for any advice.

Is there anyway you could have a a technical or semi-technical person on site perform the flashing while you walk them through the procedure over the phone? The new firmware would be sent before hand and parked in a special directory for the assistant. Just a thought.

As suggested if someone there can help it would be the best however i have remotely uploaded and flashed firmware as well as done it wirelessly. Definetely not recommended but i understood the potential for disaster and accepted it. Now another suggestion is to copy the fireware to a remote pc that is on the lan and then upload it from that machine over the lan to the device. Would be the safest way to do it remotely.

I agree with both of you.

I did it once before remotely in a pinch during my more optimistic youthful sys admin days and it was successful. I am just a bit more cautious as there is so much that can go wrong when one thinks about it...

    Thanks for the two recommendations.
