I'm interested in disabling my SSID broadcast so my neighbors don't see my wireless network. I know that this won't stop people with a little experience and the right tools from seeing my SSID, but it will keep some people from seeing my network.

My question, though, is if I turn off SSID broadcast, how does my laptop "see" and connect to my network when I bring it home from work every day? Do I have to turn the broadcast back on so my laptop can discover it, and then turn it off again so no one else sees it? Or is there a way my laptop can connect without relying on the SSID broadcast?

First I enable the SSID, then let my laptop find the wireless network, connect to it, then make sure the laptop is set to connect to this network automatically. You can then permanently disable SSID in the router. The laptop will still find the transmission and connect to it. This works for me, hope this helps.

You must put in your ssid in the manual setup for your adapter.
I assume that you have a built in adapter inside your laptop.
Locate the software and start a manual setup! :cheering:
