    ok i tried it using v23 std on both a wrt54g v2.2 and wrt54gs v3.

-turned on afterburner in the web interface
-telnet to each router and type the nvram set wl_afterburner_override=1;nvram commit

file transfer after afterburner override: 3% of 54mbps

i then went back to the web interface and set the afterburner option to auto. this set the transfer rate to ~22% of mbps which is about what i got before doing it. so it seems to do more wrong than right.

telnetting back to each router and typing:
    wl afterburner_override

a value of -1 is returned. so it seems like it's back off now.
