Anyone ever have this issue with Tomato?

    Hello all.

I just flashed to shibby's latest 090 K26 mini and didn't get any errors during the upgrade. After the router restarted I logged in and there are no menus at all to click on. All lights look normal on the router and the internet somehow is still working but I can't change anything at all. Below is an image.

Anyone have any idea how I can manually downgrade to another firmware revision? I've already done a 30-30-30 and it didn't help.

I've already done that and it didn't make any difference. I've also tried logging in with different browsers and the same issue is still there. I've upgraded shibby's versions so far with no issues but 090 didn't flash properly for some reason.

Then you have to do a clear NVRAM data and reconfigure by HAND.

I just logged in to the router with telnet and erased the nvram and rebooted but that didn't work either. I still get the same issue in the image above. Is this the method you're referring to?

    I meant this way:

Perhaps someone can explain the differences, if any, between the 3 methods below:

    • nvram erase
    • mtd-erase -d nvram
    • Administration
    • > Configuration
    • > > Restore Default Configuration
    • > > > "Erase all dada in NVRAM memory (thorough)"
[... then explain how to use this "List" format software ...]

It would also be useful to state the reason (and mechanism) why NVRAM should be erased both before and after installing new firmware.

There are many tacit assumptions made by those with problems as well as those with solutions that should be made explicit, if not questioned.

So often someone says "you must do this or that", leaving those who want reason and understanding wondering . . .

[Habits to cope with sufficiently obscure technology are indistinguishable from superstition.]

I have seen this when Compatibility View is set for the IP address of the router or for all Internal sites in IE9.

(Tools, Compatibility View Settings: uncheck the box for "Display intranet sites in Compatibility View" and delete the IP address of the router in the "Websites you've added to Compatibility View" list if it exists).

I can't access the GUI to erase it that way. When I log in, all I can see is what I posted in that screenshot.

Unfortunately that isn't the issue. I was able to see v088 just fine and immediately after flashing to v090 I now have no GUI options available. This is the first time I've ever had this type of issue with Tomato going back to its early days several years ago.

Does anyone know if I can flash to a different firmware using telnet? I can connect to the router just fine with telnet but I'm not familiar with the commands used for Tomato inside telnet. I've tried and tried to tftp the firmware but it times out. I've even done the pin shorting method and it's not resetting.

Everything is working (including internet) but I simply can not access the full web GUI to make any changes.

I tried that earlier yesterday and was able to manually get to the upgrade screen but the upgrade button wasn't working when I pressed it. You'll notice there are no options to click on the left and the amount of memory isn't showing under the current version like it's supposed to.

I have seen this issue also in the forum elsewhere on my local area. 30/30/30 hard reset, nvram erasing were all not work. I cann't see anything wrong what he had done. This guy is trying to send his new router back to the service center and hope to have a new one replaced.

Keypoint is, it is not an only one event. I have seen some similar cases were reported, it is really weird.
EDIT: Unfortunately, I didn't see anyone reported that his problem was solved, Most of them can do nothing but switched to other mod/build/firmware.

According to your previous signature, it seems that you have two routers semi bricked with 090 upgrading, so suppose that you had downloaded a broken firmware image file for some reasons? Try to download a new firmware image and flash again...? Erase NVRAM before/after the flashing.

Hope someone can help you for the flashing...

Thanks for the info alfred. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has experienced this strange issue.

It's very possible that the firmware download could have been partially corrupted or something similar. I was able to rescue my WRT160N V3 by getting into the Cisco rescue page and flashing to DD-WRT then back to shibby's v088 which is stable and working fine. I haven't been able to get my WNR3500L flashed to anything because I have no web GUI and tftp isn't working with it so I'm not sure how to get my NETGEAR flashed to anything else at the moment.

If you have any other suggestions I could try I would greatly appreciate it!

EDIT: I was finally able to flash my WNR3500L back to a working version by tricking my web browser to think it was still connected to the working router and it worked the first try. Manually pulling up the upgrade page on the non-working router worked but the upgrade button wouldn't do anything.

Since I have 2 other routers running the same firmware I reset the nvram on one of my WRT160N's and also on the non-working NETGEAR so the login/password and almost everything else would be the same. I logged into the working router and pulled up the admin/upgrade page that had a working upgrade button. I also opened up another tab that was on the root page.

I unhooked the working router and plugged in the NETGEAR. After it got booted up I went to the upgrade page that was pulled up on the working router and pressed upgrade. It went to a blank page so I pressed the retry button in Firefox. Once I did that it pulled up the working upgrade page again after pressing upgrade again it loaded the working firmware onto the NETGEAR and all of my routers are back to working order with shibby's 088 mini. I think there are some issues with the mini 090 so I will try the version after that to see if I get the same issues or not.

Now I know how to get the Linksys' and NETGEAR working again if I run into that strange issue where there is no working browser GUI.

I've been experiencing the same thing with a router that I flashed with Toastman's most recent build. It's a WRT54GL that I flashed remotely (https connection to the router's WAN side). The screens display if I refresh the browser a few times. I thought it was something to do with a backup behind that router taking all the WAN bandwidth, but maybe not.

I tried refreshing to see if the full menu would appear but it never did for me. That's the first time I've ever had that happen with any Tomato build. Very strange to say the least.

So after refreshing a few times your menus are now showing and aren't disappearing anymore?

No, they continue to disappear - I can see them after hitting Refresh or F5 3-6 times.

Hmm, very strange. Hopefully that issue will disappear in future releases.
