    Hi again,

After my Linksys E3000 has bricked and I was unable to revive it, I decided to go with the Asus beast. I am still waiting for it to arrive, my question is, is there any special thing I have to know/ take notice of before flashing tomato, or I can unbox it and directly flash tomato ?

Thank you, I hope I chose wisely.

PD: How is the preinstalled firmware ? Is it that bad ?

One thing about Asus routers is that they are very good at not bricking so easily. I like to flash firmware to my Asus router using the rescue utility provided by Asus and rarely encouter problems flashing firmware that way. If I were you I would keep a copy of Asus official firmware so have it in case you do a bad flash with tomato or dd-wrt. I've ran into an issue where I was only able to flash the official Asus firmware back to my router to recover it from a bad flash.

I was able to flash directly from Asus firmware to Tomato. I initially tried Asus for a few days when I first purchased my Asus RT-N66u and it had some bugs that bothered me. I recently tried it again and I noticed several bugs in the webui that still bothers me. Also Tomato is much smaller than Asus firmware.

If you end up liking the official Asus firmware installed on the router, I recommend visiting RMerlin's Tower to try out the firmware build's he has been creating.
