Audio Breaking up with Linksys WRT54GX2 wireless router

After I switched to my new Linksys WRT54GX SRX enabled G class router, all my PC/Laptops connected thru this router is having audio breakup problems with Skype. When I bypass the router, the problem disappears. I still have the Netgear G class router and with that I don't have any such problem. :(

I have been using wireless for a few years now starting with 802.11b, 802.11g and now since I wanted MIMO, I switched to Linksys SRX technology router. I have 2 PCS and 3 laptops connected (all on wireless) to the router and have had no problem with Skype until I switched to this Linksys router. My PCs are not of one single config (one Dell PC, one Dell laptop, one home brewed PC, two Thinkpads) and there is a mixture of wifi cards (Intel, D-Link, Linksys).

And ideas where the problem would be?

I posted this thread on skype forum and I was directed to use HyperWRT f/w.

    WRT54GX2 and skype

I have the same problem with the same router and skype. So far the only thing that works is to turn off the router firewall.

But that said I don't know how to open a port for the skype software and have found nothing very clear about it for the WRT54GX2. And I'm not sure that will fix it even if I did know what I was doing.

If I figure it out I'll let you know...

I was just wondering if you have found any solutions to your problems with Skype? I just bought a WRT54GX to upgrade from a WRT54G and now my Skype connection is pretty much useless.

Any help would be great, and thanks in advance

    So far nothing,

I tried every setting I could set with ports and triggers and such.

It seems to be somewhat better with the firewall turned off but that doesn't fix it entirely.

As well the problem is not consistent, it is worse some times and better others.

I would guess that until linksys or someone produces a firmware fix don't buy this router if you want to use skype.

Other than that though it works very well.

Have you tried the Firmware version I upgraded to it but now the person with whom I have been testing skype is away for a few days so cannot test with him - have to wait till the weekend.

I do notice somehting very strange though, the issue is only with some skype users! Have you noticed that? That led me to believe the problem was not at my end, though when I could get a bad connection with one user I would immediately bypass the router and the problem would be gone - indicating the problem is with me.

I only know a few skype users so it has problems with all of the them.

But it does vary to the degree that it clips.

I didn't know there was a new firmware version for it, will have to try that.

After looking at that, it says its not for WRT54GX2.

Try turning OFF the firewall within the GX2 router. If this problem is like what Vonage people have had, doing that supposedly fixes the issue(until the unit reboots, then you must turn it off again).

    new firmware always "slow"

try 2.00.10 and 2.00.12 both is slow and UPNP issue havent solve.

once u get new ip from ur ISP (dynamic IP broadband) ur UPNP will die.
u have to disable and enable it again.

    damn it!

    WRT54GX4 and SKYPE - Don't Work!

Well I can add a lot more - IT IS THE ROUTER - specifically the GX4
I have both this GX4 and a WRT54G and have switched back and forth - Works with the G and has periodic voice drop outs with the GX4 - THIS IS ALSO TRUE WITH SIPPHONE (Hardware or Software)

I have updated to the latest software - and HAVE activated the Qos features (for SKYPE and Voice Device) - NOTHING helps except going back to the good ole WRT54G

Looks like Linksys has problems with this one.

    Re: WRT54GX4 and SKYPE - Don't Work!

I was having problems with my BEFSX41 handling my download speeds so I decided to try out the WRT54GX4. I have not been able to get my SunRocket VOIP to work at all behind the GX4. Linksys support just sent me the beta firmware 1.00.12 and gauranteed it would fix the problems. NOT!

I just flashed the X41 with the latest firmware and so far it's holding up now. The GX4 is now behind the X41 and pretty much just an access point for my wireless... :(

I was having the same Skype issues and am running firmware v2.00.10 (US version) on the WRT54GX2.

I have found a workaround that works consistently for me. After powering the router on, I go to the web administration tool and navigate to the Security tab ( Without changing any settings I hit the "Save Settings" button.

That's it! From that point onward, Skype works fine.

I have a WRT54GX2 with firmware Version 1.00.08. I don't use Skype but was having some terrible audio problems (skipping and jumping) with my WMA11B media adapter. The only thing i found that solved the problem was going into Advanced Wireless Settings and disabling Concatenation. Hope that helps with your issues.
