I installed your 1.3 firm on my WRT54GS and my laptop located about 50 ft away had about a 30% signal with default power at 42.

I increased it to 62 and am now getting about 47-52%.

Is this OK and will I blow up my router if I go higher?

    TX power on WRT54G

I personally would not go much more than 50 on HYPERWRT v1.3. I lowered mine down to 36 with a power gain.
My experience with these wireless routers, A.P.'s and cards shows that a signal above 33% should work for you. If it's a laptop I would try getting no less than 40%. The only thing I would worry about when raising the TX power is de-sense to your RX.
I'm currently connected to my WRT54G which is 2 blocks away and have no issues :D with a 40-42% signal.
I would DEFINATELY choose a channel other than 6... try channel 1 or 11. :!: Channel 9 is too close to microwave oven frequencies in my opinion. Hope this helps.

    What do you mean exactly?

Do you know the approximate overload point for the LinkSys WRT54G/WRT54GS receiver?
