    Hi all.
New to the list and the NSLU2, but have a query as to the possibility of setting the NSLU2 up as follows.

Basically have two HD attached, one to serve as file store, the other to be a backup. From all i have read, the NSLU2 does not appear to be hot swappable, but I find it hard to believe that there isn't a way around this. I want to be able to take the backup drive away with me at the end the day, possibly even have two that i swap over each day so that i always have a current backup on me.

Can anyone suggest a solution? what about using the unslung firmware? would that make this possible?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions,

first you should know that the backup software, to my knowledge, only works with ext3, so if you're going to take the drive somewhere make sure it's not a windows pc.

I installed unslung and I believe I can hotswap, I haven't tested it, but several tuts say to hot swap the device now and again.

Don't know about unslung or openslug but NSLU2 does not support hot swapping.

To swap a drive you need to power down the NSLU2, power down the drive in question, remove the drive, plug in your replacement if any, power up the replacement and finally power up the NSLU2. OK if you can afford a short period of time with the storage offline.

Also, there is a very good but not perfect EXT3 driver for XP.
