    hi all

my housemate uses torrents on both his PC's connected to my network, when they detect that my computer is doing nothing they take all the bandwidth. I have tried the settings in QoS to no avail.

can someone give me some help on solving this problem?

the next thing may be to cut his cat5 cables

If you have a WRT54G or WRT54GS V4 or earlier, you can load HyperWRT Thibor on it. It has settings for both lowering the priority of BitTorrent automatically, or blocking it entirely.

QoS is something that takes some care to set up in the WRT54G series routers. You will usually have to specify your upstream (upload) bandwidth manually:

That article was written for Vonage users, but covers the way QoS works pretty well.

Here are my screenshots for Thibor 14 that have my Vonage VoIP and BitTorrent coexisting nicely, and that's on a very limited ~210kbps upload connection.
