Bandwidth loss when connected to WRT54G w/ DD-WRT

I was just setup with 16Mb down/1Mb up from Comcast.

When connecting my system directly to the cable modem and using the or websites, my download bandwidth was clocked at 22Mb... multiple times.

I then connected my WRT54G v 3 router with DD-WRT v23 firmware to the cable modem. I repeated the speed tests and now get a result of 12Mb.

I repeated the test multiple times. I also connected my system directly to the cable modem again and got 22Mb again.

Any ideas as to why I'm experiencing at 10Mb slowdown when using my wireless router? (btw... no other devices are currently connected to the router... wired or wireless).

how did you get 22Mb out of a 16Mb comcast connection? sounds like caching is making nonsense of the results.

I am actually having similiar results. I have 9 - 10 mbits down when connected directly to my cable modem. When I connect to through the router I get at best 6mbits. Not a caching issue either as I have tested multiple computers plus I have a 10mbps connection.

are you using QoS at all? QoS is known to have limitations on the WRT54G/GS/GL

I'm not using QoS. I do typically use WDS and WPA to connect 2 other routers. However, as I said, when doing these speed tests, I have everything shutdown except for the main router and the system I'm using.

I'm having similar problem with my wr54gs. I have a 30/5 connection from my provider, when I'm connected directly to the modem. I can hit 30MB down when downloading from newsgroup, but once I connect the router, I only can get 20MB download. I think the linksyswrt54gs has a 20MB limitation. I'm no expert but from my observation that is what it look like.

    My setup
    WRT54GS DDwrt sp23

Toxic, the jump in speed is from Comcast's Speedbooster they now offer.

I have 6MB down and have recorded speeds as high as 25MB with Speedbooster. I use a WRT54GL v1.1 with DD-WRT v23 SP2 mini. When I loaded Micro or Standard I would lose some wireless signal and performance was just a little less to my liking. I have tried other firmware but it seems the best performance I get is from DD-WRT v23 SP2 (09/15/06) mini
