We use several BEFVP41 routers for our employees to use for VPN access to our corporate network.

One thing we have run into when using some of the version 1 BEFVP41 routers is that the WAN DHCP lease times only go for one hour. No matter what you set it to go for or what the status window says the lease is good for, after one hour, bam, you lose your WAN addy and have to start over with a release/renew via the router or by power-cycling the BEFVP41. You lose both your VPN and your overall Internet connection. Not good.

We updated the firmware with no luck. Linksys customer 'support' was of no help, of course.

One of our smarter IT guys figured out if you set the 'Client Lease Time' under the 'DHCP' menu to just the number '2' (minutes), we now get a lease time of four days (using Comcast cable internet here in the SF Bay Area). Twenty-four hours into that, the lease is still good and no more dropped connections.

Might be worth a try if you're having the same issue?
