Best side for external antenna on wap54g?

Can anyone tell me definitively, what is the best antenna port (left or right when looking from behind) to connect an external antenna to a wap54g? (uk version). I have tried a few different setups & it just doesn't seem to be working properly (testing signal levels with netstumbler).

At the moment I have a small 5db magmount connected to the right hand side (looking from behind the unit), and the antenna selection set to RIGHT in the setup options (linksys firmware 2.08 ). The rubber ducky is still connected to the other antenna port.

I know some access points with a diversity setup had one specific antenna that was used for transmit only, so not sure what the linksys does.

Also don't really want to use custom firmware because 1) it's the european version with firmware 2.08 and 2) another wap54g is connecting to it in repeater mode, would be afraid that this would break if using custom firmware.

    Thanks for any help,
