I am tempted to buy a router off ebay that comes with the standard version of dd-wrt and has a Broadcom BCM5354 chip rev 3.
    I want tomato. :)
Is it a good assumption that tomato will work?

What router is it? Asus WL500gP v2? That would work well.

Watch out, dd-wrt has a micro version for routers with only 2MB flash (Linksys WRT54G V5&6 for example) - there's no Tomato equivalent.
