This should be a simple question for you guys but I can't get my head around this. I need six ports, two of them to be connected to a VOIP and a server (ftp etc so need a decent through put. I live in large huse and have version 1 WRT54G in the corner of the house. My broadband modem is next to it. I need to extend the signal two hundred metres to my friends house (so we can share the server space and broadband) have two pcs and laptop with wireless. He has a pc. Should I (remember that budget is important)
    a) invest in a new WRT54G with SRX and use the old in the attic to connect
    b) put a switch 10/100/1000? and pug devices into that
    c) use a WAP in the attic and upgrade the WRT54G to an SRX?
    d) keep it simple and dig up the road and connect our houses that way!

Open to ideas - not sure about fiddling about with firmwere but willing to give it a go.

put the wrt54g in thre attic with a new set of antennae then get ddwrt final and boost your signal power, next run cat5 to the items that need to be cabled. wireless should be fast enough for anything you need to do on an in house server it doesnt get alot of pings and hits from the net does it?
the voip box should be wired in but that shouldnt be hard.

this should go the distance easily and for about 30-40 usd
