Haven't found answer to this: So can it connect wirelessly to any AP? For example D-link devices or Cisco.
I'm planning to use WRT54G to get WLAN signal from AP (public net).

Short answer...don't risk it! If you search WRE you'll find a whole pile of horror stories from people who tried to use it with non-Linksys equipment and just as many from those (like me) who have a Linksys AP.

    WRE is a P.O.S.

    Stay away from it!

This is because there is no detailed specifications of the WDS (Wireless Distribution System) !
Consequently each manufacturer implements WDS as it wants and the products are not compatible...

You don't have to use WDS (which indeed can cause compatibility problems with non-Linksys hardware).

Just put the WRT54G in plain, old client mode (there is a tutorial here in the forum) and the WRT54G can connect to any 802.11b/g AP, no matter wich brand or model the AP is.

I don't need to use WDS, so guess I´ll get this thing to work.
    Thanks for answers.
