Check the firmware on your WRT54G V2.1 to check if it has the minimium firmware version first and have DDID broadcast enabled. Reset it to factory options by using a unbent paper clip and pressing the reset button. Set it up with the router wireless encryption to disabled temporary. After resetting the WRE54G press the auto-configuration button. If the autoconfiguraton worked both LED should blink blue. You should be able to access the WRE54G by using its default IP Address at this point. You should be able to set the MAC Address of your router, its SSID and channel on the status page. At this point change the default password and save the setting. Add encryption to the WRE54G and save the setting. Then change the encryption on your router to match, Power cycle the WRE54G. If you have MAC Address filtering enabled on your router you have to add the MAC Address of the WRE54G to the PC allowed to acces the router. IF you want to use WPA-PSK encryption, you should update the firmware on the WRE54G to the latest version, which is on this web site only.
