I flashed my WRT54G a long time ago with HypeWRT firmware to use with my xbox worked flawlessly. I want to hook it up to use on my desktop so I won't have to buy a wireless card. But I can't seem to access the setup page on the WRT54G to change some settings. When I setup the WRT54G I changed the IP address to (don't ask I read it would get better performance). I tried doing a hard reset and changed my desktop to a static IP but I still can't seem to get the setup page. Im on vista x64 and when I set it up I had XP does this have anything to do with it? please any suggestions I really dont want to shell out 50 bucks for a wireless card when this linksys does the job very well.

I suspect that the IP address on your router is probably one of,, or Your wireless may or may not be turned on.

You should certainly turn off the wireless on your laptop and connecting directly between your laptop and a LAN port of your router. You should try setting your laptop to each of,, or and see if you can ping the router.

A 30-30-30 reset should certainly put you back to, which I'm pretty sure is the default for HyperWRT.

(I've got a special location on my laptop where it has four different static IPs simultaneously. It's sole purpose is to speed up handling of situations like this.)

What kind of machine do you have? I can help you with a Mac. Someone else will have to walk you through this on a PC or Linux box.

crap Im on Vista x64, I tried setting my IP to each of the IPs and I still can't access the setup page. Do i need to put something in the default gateway?

If you're on the same subnet as the router (i.e. you've got netmask set to, and the computer and router only differ in the last number), then you don't need to set the gateway.

    I've got no more ideas.

dont set your PCs IP to any of those, that is the ip for the WRT.

    it defaults to

set your PC to automatically assign an IP and plug the LAN cable from your PC to LAN1 on your WRT.

do you have a connection light on the WRT and the rear of the LAN port on your PC?
