Hello I am a new user of linksys and cable.I formerly had dsl with two pc's and a laptop working with no trouble.
I moved and dsl is not avail. I now have comcast cable with a wrt54g. every thing was working fine until a week ago.
I can only connect through the rca cable modem. when I try the router I get no connection.I have uninstalled Norton, disabled the fire wall, disabled all spyware(microsoft beta and spybot),tried a new router,wrt54g,reinstalled software and still the same.
I also did the thing it only works with cable modem. When linksys is inline I get a limited or no connective warning. The system wasworking fine for about 5 months.I believe it started getting screwy around the time I upgraded the Norton to System works 2006.
please help my kids have taken over my pc.

Does your cable company register your MAC address to verify you are a user? If so, I think you need to clone your address to the Linksys to get it to work. The warning means you are not getting an IP from your cable DHCP server.

Is your computer just not receiving an IP address from the router? if it is connecting to the local network but just wont get online, try this: un-plug both devices --> Plug in the Cable Modem --> then plug in the Router. Sign in to the router and goto the status, make sure you have a valid IP address on the router. it sounds like the router is just not receiving the address from what your saying. If there is just try renewing the IP.
If your problems are connecting to the router try setting up a static address and see if DHCP is off or something?
